What to see and do
There are so many opportunities for making the most of your stay in Bubión and its surroundings, from skiing in the Sierra Nevada or celebrating Christmas to practising all kinds of sports or making excursions to Granada or the sea...
To make sure you won't feel bored for a minute, here's a small selection of interesting places and activities.
Visits and excursions
The villages of the Alpujarras
We wouldn't be in Bubión if we didn't know that this is one of the most beautiful villages of the Alpujarras (and of Andalucía)! And while you're around, you might just as well go to Capileira and Pampaneira, its charming neighbours, where you will also find lots of shops, restaurants, etc.
Also the other towns and villages of the Alpujarras are very much worth a visit: Orgiva (administrative capital of the Alpujarras), Lanjarón (spa and wellness centre), Trevélez (famous for its hams), …
Granada
Granada is about an hour’s drive away and a delightful city to visit! The Alhambra palace is spectacular, but also the historical centre, the cathedral, the narrow streets of the Albaicín … are all worth a visit. And if you have the chance to go to a flamenco show in Sacromonte, don’t hesitate!
The old city, on a hill opposite the Alhambra, is full of small shops and there is a magnificent view of the Alhambra from St Nicholas square, higher up. There is a shuttle bus service between the Alhambra and the city.
We advise you to book tickets for the Alhambra in advance, as numbers are limited and tickets are time restricted.
Book by phone on (0034) 902 441 221 or online at www.alhambra-patronato.es
The Alhambra is clearly signposted from the main road and parking is available.
The coast
It will take you only 45min to drive down to Motril or Salobreña, and enjoy the Mediterranean Sea and the beaches of the Costa Tropical.
Our favourite coastal resorts:
Almuñecar : down to the coast at Motril and then along towards Málaga (15min past Salobreña). A charming busy seaside resort, which was able to retain a lot of character. From here, you can go inland to discover the Valle Tropical and its villages, e.g. Otivar. Almuñecar also has a large flea market on the first Saturday of the month, which is worth a visit.
La Herradura : a bit further along towards Málaga (15min past Almuñecar). A small, quieter place with a nice beach, a lot of restaurants and lovely views.
Nerja : a bit further along towards Málaga (30min past La Herradura). A busy but attractive old town with lots of shops, restaurants and bars, beaches and plenty going on. There are wonderful caves you can visit on the outskirts (info: www.cuevadenerja.es ).
Activities
The Alpujarras is a fantastic area to explore actively while enjoying the overwhelming nature and fresh air!
Walking in the area is wonderful. At the side of the house is the footpath to Capileira, and at the bottom of the village by the church is the footpath to Pampaneira. You can get all the information you need about walks, also maps and protective clothing, in the tourist information office in Pampaneira.
Birdwatching is a very popular activity in the Alpujarras and the Sierra Nevada. See the section Useful links for more information.
Mountain biking and horse riding are available locally. See the section Useful links for more information.
Climbing, paragliding, skiing: see the section Useful links for more information.
And of course, we are here to help you with everything we can!
